I was blessed to have been a young man in Oakland, California during the 60s. At that time blues and R&B artists from all over appeared at small clubs on 7th Street in West Oakland. I frequented places like Slim Jenkin's Supper Club, the Blue Room and many other clubs along 7th Street. I enjoyed the likes of B.B. King, Ike & Tina turner, Aretha Franklin, Big Joe Turner, Big Mama Thornton, Etta James, Bobby Blue Bland, Ray Charles and more - wonderful and amazing experiences and memories. I've seen a lot of bands over the years, but I've always missed the sounds and the feelings I experienced back then. When I first saw the Soul Persuaders perform it brought it all back - goosebumps and all - I was "home." I knew I had to work with the band and help bring their talent to all of you. Aladdin's soulful vocals coupled with the extraordinary talents of Phil, Fred and Les results in an unforgettable musical experience. If you are into R&B, Motown, Funk, Blues and Soul from the 60s through the present, you'll want to experience the pure authentic energy of the Soul Persuaders.
The Soul Persuaders members include Aladdin (lead vocals), Phil Weaver (lead guitar and backup vocals), Fred Williams (bass) and Les Carter (drums and backup vocals). Three of the members - Phil, Fred and Les - are from Detroit, original home of Motown. As youngsters they lived Motown music. Fred and Les had their own R&B band and performed at Berry Gordy's home. All three moved on to tour and record with many of the major Motown groups. Aladdin grew up in Oakland, California. He was similarly inspired by West Coast R&B, Motown and Blues groups of the day developing his singing abilities with many bands.
